Winning Arguments
Communication is an integral part of human existence. Getting into conversations is almost inevitable and the existence to perspectives, personal opinions and individual points of view sometimes births arguments....
An argument is an exchange of diverging or opposite views, typically a heated or angry one.
In most cases, arguments build from soft tempo into harsh tones, violent/tensed atmosphere and responses gets personal. If not handled properly could lead to exchange of words, fighting or even broken relationships....
Expressing opposites views on the other hand can leave you better informed, add to your knowledge base, expose you to new realities and even make you explore other sides of you if done properly...
I have a few tips that could help
Keep an open mind
When you engage in conversations with an open mind, it becomes easier for you to embrace other points of view, relate with other perspectives and even manage your tone.
You may be wrong sometimes
No matter how smart you are, sometimes you may miss it. Instead of trying to prove how right your wrong is, acknowledge being wrong, let it go and move on
Don't go personal
If you are the kind of person who takes offense easily or attacks someone's personality, you might have to work on your emotions.
When arguing, deal with the subject matter
without having to involve someone's persona.
Apologize immediately
Sometimes when engaging in heated arguments, unpleasant words tend to slip thereby causing more damage. Apologize immediately, sincerely and as often as you can to turn away wrath.
Give friendly hugs or handshakes after heated conversations
This sound impossible but as much as you can, try to make friendly body contact with persons you just had an argument with to calm the tension and also assure them of the intactness of the friendship or relationship.
check up on your folks after arguments
For arguments that doesn't end on a good note, it's advisable to call the parties involved afterwards to make sure they are fine and they have let go of whatever ill feelings they have.
