Hello friends ...

Today I've got the mood to have a barbecue in my garden. The weather was perfect, so I want to taste some "sate kambing" (Indonesian goat skewer).
Well, in Indonesia we would generally use goat meat,
but since it's nearly impossible to find goat meat here, so we can only make mutton skewers.

So here comes the recipe:

  • 600 g mutton or goat meat, slice it with the thickness in about 10 mm, the size would finally depend on your liking
  • 10 chery tomatoes, chopped
  • 1-2 shallots, depend on the size, finely chopped
  • 2 rawit chilis (thai bird eye chilis), chopped or ground.
If you can't stand spicy foods, you can replace it with red pepperoni or just skip it completely
  • 150ml kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soya sauce.
Despite the sweetness it contains already enough salt to my taste, but if you like it more salty, you can add more salt or 1 tablespoon light soya sauce which is normally rather salty)
  • a pinch of ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons peanut cream (or ground peanut).
The standard recipe in Indonesia would normally use no peanut, but once I've eaten at a street vendor which add some ground peanut in the sauce and I found it to be especially delicious.
Since then I always add some peanut in my sauce made for sate kambing.
Each guests who ever came to our house in Germany and had the opportunity to taste it, seem to think the same like me. Fat makes everything tastier hahaha.

Instruction:

It's actually quite simple. Prepare the bamboo skewers and get your mutton skewers ready for the BBQ.
While arranging the meat on the skewers please make sure you have at least a piece of fatty meat in between,
this fatty meat would make your meat more juicy as it melts during the grill process
and would lubricate the rest of the meat on the skewer.
Btw, if you don't mind to have more fat in your dish and especially have no allergy
so that you'd like to add some peanut as well to the sauce, I would suggest to add ca. 50 ml hot water to the sauce.
Marinate the mutton skewers with the prepared sauce and let it sit for at least 1 hour in the fridge. After a while we can statt grilling it and from time to time smear another sauce on the BBQ-meat until it's thouroughly done.

The mutton skewer will be served with the same sauce and steamed rice.

Hallo Freunde …

Now here comes the pictures:
Jetzt kommen wir zu den Bildern

Here are 2 example of "kecap manis" which are exported to Germany by the most famous soya sauce producent in Indonesia: "ABC" und "Bango" brand. My favourite one is the "Bango" brand.
Those two are my personal suggestion, but there are some indonesian style soya sauce which are to be found in local supermarket too (at least in Germany supermarket). It's just that they're not necessarily produced in Indonesia.
Unfortunately I can't give any testimony about them as I can easily find Indonesian brand here.

9. ...mutton skewers are ready to serve.

Bali Kitchen, Bamboo Garden, Conimex, A, usw.

Look really yummy! It would be an enjoyable time for you having a barbecue in your garden.

It looks very tasty. I love eating them, when I visit the Netherlands. There are so many great Indonesian restaurants.
