TOWARDS RATIONALITY

in #rationality6 years ago

Ishaan's parents blamed his poor academic performance on laziness to study and little or no interest in academic activities. They didn't know that their child had a learning disability characterized by difficulty in reading and writing called dyslexia.

Very often our penchant for impeccability and excellence affect our ability to accurately trace the cause of failure of our loved ones to the root. May I say that failure here is not limited to academics alone, it could be failure in business, relationship, career etc. You will discover that we are more emotional than reasonable or factual, and when this is the case we barely make progress in arresting the failure.

So, instead of searching for the reason why our loved ones are not meeting up to a certain level which is what we expect from someone who is reasonable, we ask very emotional questions like 'why me?', 'did I wrong God or anybody?'.

Everybody gets emotional at some point and to an extent and ask emotional questions like the ones above when things are not working to plan but you need to go a step further and by trying to assess every step you undertook during the activity. You find out whether you didn't follow every detail and possible ways of improving how it was done. You also seek for the possibility of a biological or genetic influence on failure like in Ishaan's case.

I believe to arrest failure, you have to go a step further from emotions to being rational.
