Excellent Commentary On Where Obama Failed Black People

in #racism6 years ago

This discussion on "The Good Negro" is important. In times like these we find our selves grappling to understand social disparities and ongoing inequality. Aren't we supposed to be past all of the open oppression and illegal immoral treatment of black people?

Yes, supposedly, and then again we also know things continue to go awry behind & even in Front the scenes.

So when the magnifying glass turns to the black community, there is this 'notion' of the good negro. The idea is that if blacks will just behave, and stay in line nothing 'racist' will happen to them. Meanwhile when blacks Do step out of line, it's because they didn't have a father at home. Their mother is uneducated, or a myriad of reasons are stated, that suggest that 'bad negros' are just inherently bad.

People ignore the conditions and the environments that shape people

In this excellent discussion from 2013 on The Young Turks, Professor Jody Armour hits on some key factors with President Obama. His father was not in the house and from what we can tell his mother may have been financially poor. However, his grandparents (both white) were connected, and able to financially support Barack.

Financial support Makes a huge difference regardless of Parenting

A person can overcome a lot of things with financial support. The links between crime and poverty often go ignored. On one hand crime feeds a million dollar industry, that employs a large % of whites in this nation. Without crime, a lot of white people would be looking for a job. Many cogs in the wheel that continue to keep cycles spinning, for reasons seldom discussed out loud.
