Mencken is a known anti-religionist, so I think the quote is pretty clear and tongue-in-cheek in its meaning! He means "respect" in the sense of "yeah man, whatever you say, whatever makes you happy" :P

That's an error people sometimes get, it's not really a bandwidth issue. Unless you comment like 24/7.
