How do you delete posts on Steemit after becoming more familiar with what content your intending on sharing?

I've noticed that some comments provide the edit option where references can be removed. But, not all comments. Why is this happening? I would like to share my content. I shared others content that I enjoyed. I was able to remove a few of the posts. But, not all. Why is the functionality of edit available for some posts and not others?
