Optical communication system

How are you? Hope so everyone would be safe and sound just like me as I am also safe Alhamdulillah....


Today my topic will be all about optical communication system so I would like to go into depth of this topic!

If I talk about optical communication system then these are transmitting data at long distances so these systems are using lights as source for transmission of information that offer high bandwidth. Fast transmission rate of information as well as high level of reliance in comparison with traditional copper based systems.


If I talk about brief history then before optical communication system development there were multi mode fibres used that have restricted banned with and capacity of transferring information to long distance. With the passage of time more advanced systems have been developed in which first there are single mode fibre and then wavelength division multiplexing and dense wavelength division multiplexing.


If I talk about components of optical communication system then first of all they are transmitter, receiver as well as optical fibre most important. If I talk about transmitter then it is indicated by its name that it is useful for conversion of electrical signal in light signal.


If I talk about receiver which is another component then it receives information by the conversion of light signal in electric signal back so that they may be processed and interpreted. If I talk about another component which was optical amplifier than these are useful for boosting strength of signal and extending distance of transmission of information.


If I talk about optical fibre then these are backbone of this communication system because they are thin strands made up of plastic or can also be made up of glass which are used for transmission of data as light signal as well as for offering high bandwidth and fastest rate of data transmission in comparison with traditional copper based system as I have also discuss it above.


If I talk about types of optical fibre than first of all there are multi-node fibres and then there are single mode fibres so if I talk about multi mode fibre then these are with high diameter of core permitting for different light signal to be transmitted simultaneously and if I talk about single mode fibre then give to their small diameter of core they are only permitting for transmission of single light.


If I talk about major function of transmitter then this is useful for conversion of electrical signal into light signal and types of transmitters consists of light emitting diodes, laser diode as well as vertical cavity surface emitting laser. If I talk about most commonly used applications which are also lower speed then these are light emitting diodes and if I talk about applications that are high speed than these are vertical cavity surface emitting laser.

If I talk about you receivers then their major purpose is for conversion of light signal back in electrical signal as we have discussed it above and if I talk about their types then they consists of photodiode,photo transistors as well as optical receivers. If I talk about photo diode than these are applications of low speed but optical receivers and photo transistors are applications of high speed.


If I talk about applications of optical communication systems then they have applications in telecommunication system, data centres as well as in cable television. The systems are useful in metropolitan area networks wide area networks as well as local area networks and moreover in industrial field optical communication system also have applications which are process control and automation.


If I talk about major benefits of optical communication system then first of all they are important for providing speed of transmitting information as well as for providing high level of bandwidth and reliability as well as longer distance of transmission. These are also immune with electromagnetic interference which are making them suitable overall.

If I talk about future of these communication systems then my personal belief is that with own going research and advancements that have aim in increasing speed and capability of the systems, there will also be emerging technology is we will see which will be more efficient in transferring rates of information.
