The first movement

Let's go all the way back to the beginning. The names of the bigger bands we all know i.e. Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, Buzzcocks, Damned. This was the first wave and they immediately inspired others. Maybe a band of good musicians who had just started playing together but couldn't quite figure out their "sound " had a couple of members who went to the pub and were shown musical directions never imagined. Maybe three friends heard about these new bands that were amazing. Playing music like nothing anybody had ever heard. So they went to the show and were stunned. None of them were musicians or thought about being in a band but that night made them say l need to do that. They formed a band, bought instruments the next day and proceeded to learn how to play. Bands were springing up everywhere and major labels came running with contracts in hand.
It didn't take long for the corporate execs to realize the nihilism and anger were real and it frightened them So suggestions to tone things down started being a condition to being signed. By 1980 they had sterilized a culture, proclaiming "punk is dead". Not only had they neutralized a threat to their control over the entertainment industry, the record company's made extreme amounts of money while doing so.
Angelic Upstarts began in 1977 in England and have continued to this day. This is a good example of the kind of punk rock the industry feared. It's a good example of rock and roll.
