Dark Side Of Content Creation: Sustaining Stupidity For Short Term Profit Fueled By YouTube Algorithms, SEO & Cool Relatable Friendly Neighborhood Sociopathic Social Media Stars

in #psychology6 years ago

I spend a great deal of time on the internet. I come across many great things and I can't really share every cool and interesting thing I come across. I think I'll have to wait for something like ShareSTEEM - An SMT Idea I Proposed But today I was watching a a very important video that I just had to share and eventually I decided to expand it to a full article because I consider it to be a very important topic. The video is 35 minutes and 41 seconds. But it is worth the watch. You can skip few seconds at a time if you want to. But please watch the whole thing.

This isn't just true about CinemaSins. Most of YouTube is like this. Jake/Logan Paul, PewDiePie and many others follows a similar formula and you can really explore their goals and bottom line if you take some time to look at the algorithms because those are the incentives that drive most of the successful YouTubers and it is these unwisely put together short sighted algorithms that define who the next starts are going to be. While mainstream media has taken the path of being shills and propaganda stations, the social media stars and many of the websites and channels have turned to either Yellow Journalism and/or nitpicking overdrive where nothing is good and the content resembles cryptocurrency fear mongering FUD spreading degenerates on Reddit etc.

If you are willing to dig deeper into Journalism and YouTube Algorithms and ready to spend and evening, here is an excellent playlist that you won't regret watching: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOl4b517qn8gjUXIycCV_oScXzd3I8vrO

Modern day content creation, SEO, getting into trending etc is prioritizing quantity over quality where 99.999999% of the content loose more than half their worth in a matter of hours. The content is mostly about what's hot right now and at certain cases (Terrorist Attack, Exchange Hack, Natural Disaster etc.) we just need to know what's going on. But flooding the internet with what's hot right now is the equivalent of taking Adrenaline shots twice a day, every day. It is madness and that madness would smother humanity. Nightcrawler (2014) is a very good movie that do take an excellent look into the general gist of things behind the scenes and I consider it a recommended watch for anybody who gives 2 cents about mass media.

I'm Not Against Viral Content Just As I'm Not Opposed To Comic Book Movies

What I'm against is producing dumb content with very low quality. What I'm against is spreading unfounded negativity. Crypto-Sphere at least has the name FUD. Most media are simply spreading a FUD equivalent of Video Games, Movies and all other forms of original content belittling them. Every trope is becoming a fault. Stylization is criticized, being bland and predictable is criticized, having too much narrative is criticized, being too simple is criticized, being complex is criticized, being political is criticized, being neutral is criticized, everything that is something is criticized and then they get shipped as actual original content. If you are making viral content based on other people's work, at least try something like these:

Don't Curse The Darkness; Light A Candle

As I mentioned in my Open Letter To Communities post, I'd like to combat this madness through producing great things. Most people are mindless zombies anyways. Think of them as countries that embrace communism. They will face their eventual decay. There are people who are great intelligent individuals. Don't let them loose hope. Inspire them. Create content for them. Share great things. Buy great books. Support good developers. Spread the truth. Create your own niche communities that you share values with. When a great movie comes out, support it. Subscribe to underappreciated channels. Discover things that stimulate or better, expand your mind and spread the word.

Finally here is something with great wisdom and great inspiration. It's the kind of we need to spread.

Wow, while I have already seen the cinemasins video, but the martial arts video was just wonderful. I might even watch the movie! This is what needs to go viral!

Nice too see you after some time. Nightcrawler (2014) wasn't exactly a masterpiece. But it was certainly a very good movie. You won't be wasting your time. But the real gem would be Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (especially the Laughing Man arc of the series - which is mixed in with other stand alone episodes as an ongoing investiation)

I don't really use steemit anymore, mostly because the amount of content here decreased since the SBD price fell so much, so there's not much to do here :/

I have seen Ghost in the Shell, definitely one of my favorite anime!

Great to see you back after some time. Personally I can manage to dig content without much of a problem. I do tend to have broad taste and I like to research practically every subject I come across. Even if I don't have anything on steemit, I still have YouTube, movies, other websites with loads of content.

Haha thank you! It's not that I don't find content in general, it's just that after the sbd price fell a lot of people quit, so I didn't find as much content here as I used to. A few months ago I remember there being so many posts saying that people were in it only for the money etc., almost nothing of substance. A few blogs(including yours)that I liked were still posting, but after a few weeks steemit just started feeling tedious. But now it looks like things have kinda went back to normal, so I guess I'll give steemit another go.
