The Steem frame of mind

in #psychology5 years ago (edited)

Last night I was asked what I train at work and while I have talked about working a fair bit, I thought I would spend a few words telling what I actually do. It likely will give people a bit of insight into why I write what I do about Steem.

I will remind that I actually have two workplaces. First is my employer, which is a software company that has gone from a startup with 4 founders in Finland, to a burgeoning market leader with 500+ employees spread globally and hundreds of channel distributors and consultants. And second is my longer running workplace, my own business where I train mostly management and key employees in companies skill development.

In both, mindset is the key development area.

It doesn't really matter what one has done, is doing or wants to do in the future, if someone wants to successfully perform and develop, without the right mindset, it is near impossible. I am not talking about "thinking positively" or that nonsense Success Porn that gets shilled, I am talking about the attitude and understanding that leads to developing good habits.

When it comes to consistent success, process is everything.

It is because of this required good process that I am so keen on writing about Steem development from the perspective of the blockchain as without the infrastructure that enables users, most users are going to struggle, no matter what they try. On Steem this is about having enough variation (Communities, SMTs, applications) that pretty much anyone with half a mind can use and benefit from.

But that mind needs the right mindset.

For the majority of negative users on Steem, most are destined to fail because of their negative outlook. If one doesn't believe that there is a future here, one is highly unlikely to develop the habits and do the work to be successful here. Those that don't believe on the long-term outlook are unlikely to build the foundation in Steem and network that the future success of Steem will benefit.

Those who want the price of Steem to improve before they start working are the kinds of people who do not understand that the work has to be donebefore success arrives. Sure, some might get lucky in various ways and still benefit significantly, but most won't. Like one user noted, it seems that the shift of voting stake is benefiting those who demonstrated pre-hardfork that they were long-term thinkers and even though they votes weren't rolling in, they still acted as if the future success of Steem is possible.

This is an important thing to understand because if people do not act as if success is possible, it means that they are unlikely to perform the right actions that will bring about that success. Imagine it like wanting to get stronger, more flexible or improve a skill while sitting on the couch watching TV without moving. The probability of reaching goals is severely reduced.

This is mindset and it doesn't matter what the odds of success may be, if change and movement is required to get there, remaining stagnant is not going to reach the goals. This is the same with things that might not even be possible to achieve, but never starting makes it certainly impossible. When it comes to investing mindset, if someone doesn't believe that what they are putting into an investment is going to appreciate in value, why would they be investing for profit as all they see is the loss.

Having the right mindset to be able to approach the learning and development changes needed is one thing, but that attitude has to also be able to have the resilience and stamina to be able to perform in sub-optimal condition, through FUD, after criticism and all kinds of influences and stresses that attempt to break the mindset and draw ones behavior away from the action needed.

Having the right attitude isn't about being blind to the possibility of failure, it is quite the opposite. Rather than avoid negative thoughts and be numbed by fear of failure, accept failure as a given at the start so that it no longer has power over the mind and then, work toward success.

Once I really started to learn about Steem and the possibilities, I have spent every day in the mindset of a future where Steem is a successful ecosystem. And even though I might not be able to predict every detail of how to get there, each day brings new information, new application, new thoughts and therefore an opportunity to evaluate and adjust behaviors once again.

For example, there have been people saying that the bidbot cartels will never be broken because they are too big and made of some top witnesses yet, here we are. For a handful of people in private discords, they know that I haven't faltered in my view and my movements towards a time that once the right conditions are introduced, they will fall away fast.

Don't misunderstand though, I do get negative from time to time too, but it is mostly because other people do not see the potential here and therefore slow down the entire process that leads to a positive future, because they do not act toward success. With the right understanding and mindset to drive the community, we could travel very far, very fast and do what is unexpected... for most.

If Steem does well eventually, I am not going to be surprised at all because, that is what I have been working toward for so long and will do into the future. What am hoping is that the last two weeks on Steem since the EIP was introduced is enough to convince those who have been idling along here to review their mindset and practices and see if they are doing what heads toward the future they want.

So, no matter what it is you might want to achieve here or anywhere else in your life, if you do not carry the mindset that supports you to behave in ways that will reach it, you are living a conflicted life and in for a great deal of not having goals met. It is up to you though as regardless of what I say or do, your mind, your actions and your outcomes are you own to live with.

The next thing to consider is, what do you believe is success?

I had to resteem this to my 4700 followers. I 100% agree, but I could not have written it down as well as you did here. Thank you.

Cheers, it is appreciated.

'if you do not carry the mindset that supports you to behave in ways that will reach it' ....... 'in for a great deal of not having goals met'

'Set a goal to become a millionaire.
Not even for the money, but for what it will make of you to achieve it and being worth that million dollars'.
Jim Rohn.

Life a life of developing to be ones best, no matter the outcomes - it was a good life.

Is that one from Jim Rohn or TarazKP?

Since I don't know Rohn, I will have to claim "anon" :D

I think you DO know Anthony Robbins. Jim Rohn was his 1st mentor.

Just a preview. I think you'll like it. And there's a lot more on YT.

Cheers. Will check it tomorrow as weirdly I am heading to bed. Early flight out in the morning for work..

After reading the first paragraph, I was like daaaaamn. Where does he get all the time to that and still create content for this community. You sir... live a very interesting life.

Success right now to me is managing to crawl back to the community. It's the being able to read great reads like this one. To me, that is how success looks like now. But I also feel like success is investment in anything.

Success is being content and happy and feeling like it you knew it be worth it 😉

I am nowadays a minnow with currently (2019.09.08, 00:30 CEST) 630.329 Steem Power, but I am consistently building my Steem account by curating, commenting and blogging.
I constantly Powering Up, because I believe in the Steem blockchain, no matter what is the current price of the Steem. Nowadays it is around $0.16 USD, by the way.
