Pi Faith in Chaos is an American film of 1998, that combines some suspense with science fiction. Directed by Darren Aronofky and starring Sean Gulette.

The film is shot in black and white and has a stifling atmosphere, very rarely has open plans, instead the camera is almost always facing the protagonist very close to his face, so the viewer can not see beyond That plane, which in many cases is desperate, since we do not know if the dangers from which Max (main character) escapes are real, or at what distance they are.

Plot

It is about a mathematician convinced that the world, reality and the entire universe are governed by numbers and mathematics. This idea obsesses him, so much that he cannot think of anything else, nor stop working and investigate it. He has the idea of discovering numerical patterns in nature, but also in works created by man, so he is sure to be able to predict the movement of the stock market, since that in itself is a universe, however, his interest in the stock market is not economical, but only motivates him to confirm his theory. Meanwhile there are two groups of people who insistently seek him out to reveal his secrets; The first one is a greedy corporation that tries to take economic advantage of Max and on the other hand a sect of Jews who believe that Max has discovered a code lost thousands of years back.

Character psychology

More than psychology, the film is full of philosophy; Would be a delight for those who like it. As for the main character, I will proceed to describe, which in my opinion, because in the film do not expressly say, are the psychological manifestations of him: Max is clearly a paranoid, but it is not known if that is only a symptom of a a worse disease worse, like schizophrenia, because in addition to feeling watched and persecuted all the time (incidentally that sometimes it was), has delusions and hallucinations, shows obsessive behavior, such as having extra locks to those who already bring the door of his Tiny apartment and check that they are really closed, constantly washing the face, etc. In addition suffers from kinds of attacks that trigger in terrible migraines and loss of conscience, thing that tries to avoid taking several pills and injections. In case he rejects any social relation, he is isolated from the world and has a single friend, a former teacher, who was also in an age obsessed with Pi, these latter symptoms may also indicate autism, but as I said before, We are not clarified what is the pathology that Max suffers.

My recomendation

Excellent film, I recommend it. If you see it, I hope you can do it from a point of view beyond the history they tell us, since the film is full of messages, and if you have already seen it, give another glimpse with a mind more willing to grasp things that before you could not, it's worth it.
