Outlining a new advertising campaign for steemit: 'The blogging-for-burgers-idea'steemCreated with Sketch.

in #promotion8 years ago (edited)

Yesterday for the first time ever I spent some $$ earned blogging for steemit. That´s how the idea for a new steemit marketing campaign came up to my mind. Here you can read the whole story about my dinner paid with steem: Steem is For Real.

steemit needs to grow? Well then let´s make it grow...

The following ads are 100% targeted on PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME, addressing their common behavior and day-to-day needs. The idea is to build a bridge between the addresser of the message and the recipient through identification.

!!!The good news: all of the following ads are FREE FOR COMMERCIAL USE - no copyrights here!!!

The ads

1 - INSURANCE

The concept

My previous campaign ideas

Some weeks ago I published Outlines of a citylight campaign for steemit - the concept: 'Do what you´ve always done - but not for free.'  Due to the positive feedback, I kept working on it and developed a second one. The second concept: 'Do what you´ve always done in social media networks - and get paid for it.' Here you find the second campaign idea: Outlines of another advertising campaign for steemit

The message of the new / third concept (ads shown above) is even more 'realistic' I think. It is 100% targeted on 'people like you and me' addressing their common behavior and needs. Food, rent, insurance, hobbies - these are basic needs and little pleasures we all know and pay for. They are no luxury articles, so with that message we keep our feet on the ground and don´t promise miracles (in an economic sense).

The idea behind

  1. IDENTIFICATION: Each of the above shown  characters respresents a potential target group within the already  existing social network users. Obviously there are much more, this is  just a non-representative selection. The idea is to build a 'bridge' between product (steemit) and customer (potential network users) through identification.
  2. PROMISE: "I CAN GET/PAY FOR BASIC NEEDS OF MY DAY-TO-DAY LIFE BY BLOGGING." That´s a quite money-driven approach, but I think  it´s still not too aggressive. It doesn´t promise people to make them rich, but offers to be paid for their shared content enabling them to afford little things - and that´s the truth.
  3. AIDA: Attention - Interest - Desire - Action.
Attention is gained by huge charismatic portraits.
    Interest is gained by identification.
Desire is gained by chance to be rewarded.
Action can be made by clicking on logo (even better: URL integration - here still missing).

Final thoughts: affiliate marketing

Look at the skateboarder, the gym member or the girl with the camera, for instance. These ads would suit perfectly for a co-branding! Well actually there is already a co-branding included (e.g. Nike on the gym guy´s shirt and Canon logo on the camera). Imagine that if brands which were represented on steemit - affiliated with the network - would integrate their logos/brands here. That could be a really suffisticated way of pushing B2B alliances on the network.

I go with Richard Branson here: 'Screw it. Let´s do it.'

I hope you enjoyed the presentation and would be happy to get your comments on it.
Don´t forget that these ads are free for any (commercial) use.
Wishing you all a nice weekend, Steemians...!
Cheers,
Marly -

You're using your Steemit blog as the landing page? I thought it was the Steemit home page, which is a good welcome page, but not necessarily a a squeeze page to bring home a specific idea. Your Steemit blog will show the visitor what you've created, but not entice them to become a new member per se. If you're spending the money to go after new Steemit members, then a page that purposely steers them to do so is best. If you were to have your own blog page doing that for instance, then it'll be constantly out there doing the mission, whether or not you're sending paid traffic there. Organic search traffic will constantly be happening and you'll keep accomplishing the goal, even when spending money or not.

If I wanted to promote steem in general, I would surely link the homepage. But since it is my money, I promote my own blog :-) People who find their way to my blog will see that I am making money with all of my articles, I think that´s a pretty good promotion for the whole platform. Since I used keywords like blogging, blogging for money, etc. they come with a set expectation, and they will find what they were looking for: a blog which earns money.
The campaign is running well so far. I´ve got even a good conversation (CTR 1.29%). As I mentioned it is just an experiment. I don´t expect miracles. If it worked well, I could write an article about it... if not as well :-))
Enjoy your Sunday!!!

Excellent ideas!
I'm inspired to create a few of my own visual ads to promote Steemit. I just recently bought new glasses ... and I blogged for it. :)

Do that! I am looking forward to seeing them :-)
Thanks for your kind feedback! Wish you a wonderful Sunday *

Love it! For me 50% of my earn goes back into this amazing platform, and the other 50% supports my crypto addiction...lol allowing me to purchase small amounts of new and interesting cryptocurrencies. Its a win/win !

Everybody should be able to finance little pleasures with steem :)
Thanks for your nice feedback!!

Where do you think would be a good place to run these ads?

To be able to reply to that question we would need to know: Who is the target group?
In my opinion we cannot just focus on 'regular' social media users, for instance, since they would miss many funtionalities they do have on their current platforms. steemit attracts bloggers, people who are interested in earning money by distributing content (not simply 'status updates') and perhaps already do that on other platforms. People who have already a certain experience with content creation and its monetisation.
That´s why I would especially focus on already existing blogger networks and communities (ONLINE / web) and places where we find people with a high affinity for writing, journalism etc. like universities, publishing companies and their corresponding magazines /media (OFFLINE / print).
Considerable growth means recruiting masses - and that means: money. If we wanted to do a really effective ad campaign, we would need a certain budget. Let´s see if the roadmap announced by Dan and Ned will include that point. In my very personal opinion it is impossible to raise a new brand without a bombastic launch campaign. Unless you have an absolutely unique idea or product which does that job by its own. But that would something to happen during the very first weeks or months - and not after having the product in the market for more than one year...
I would furthermore try to cooperate with a handful popular bloggers, 'using' them as ambassadors for steemit representing 'successful blogging' in relation with steemit, spreading the idea amoung their already existing communities. But that last point would be something additional - not directly related with the campaign.
For a start we can all share the idea amoung our friends, motivate our families to join and link our blogs in other (social media) networks. That won´t generate huge growth, but it is at least a little contribution.

Most of your ads in this post highlight a relatively inexpensive item or routine cost, the exceptions being the laptop, camera and most definitely the tattoos :) they can cost tons. But still not incredibly expensive wants and needs. In the Adwords world, you would probably geo target male or female, 16 to 35, and those that have searched specifically for the items in the pictures. But then you'd be paying for the ad clicks.

Hmmm, I am not sure if a person who is looking for a computer would be happy landing on steemit... But talking about Adwords: I have a campaign running for my own steemit blog right now - just to test how it works. The key words I defined are e.g.: personal blog, blogging, content ditribution, etc. Let´s see if/how it works. And yes, I am paying for every click :) That´s what I meant when I mentioned the 'needed budget'. Let´s see if Steemit Inc is willing to invest something here. I think it is the only way to acquire a significant amount of new users...

Your landing page shouldn't be Steemit, it should be a page on your own site that explains why Steemit is a great place for someone interested in a computer and might be interested in a platform where like minded individuals could help them earn money to cover the cost. Also a landing page tailored for each ad and focussed on what made them click the image is a way to split test your results. But there I go again, talking about people having their own website.

Do you have your own site?
I have started the adwords campaign to generate traffic for my blog on steemit since I don´t have any other website with many followers from where I might bring some new users. I wish I could do it like that!! :))

This is a really good idea @surfermarly, maybe running an add like this on reddit would be good. IIRC they are pretty inexpensive there and if run in the correct sub of the site would reach a lot of users.

That sounds really good to me, yes!
Thanks for your kind feedback, I am happy you liked the concept.

Well it hits directly at peoples sense of logic... "Wait, I could earn too by posting on steemit."

A simple ad campaign on reddit may inspire some people to say "Why am I wasting my time posting here for free, when I could post on steemit and make money?"

Right now people are still hung up that they need to buy steem or something to use steemit. Something has to break them of that thought (because its nonsense) and I think repeated exposure to logical thinking like these ads would inspire will do that.

That´s true! There might be some prejudices, resulting from ignorance. We just need to open out these believes and explain people that they can simply do what they have always done - and earn some money.
I think it would be good to especially focus on blogger platforms (see my reply above given to @vegascomic ´s comment).

Awesome campaign, Marly!

Thank you for making them available! 😄😇😄

@creatr

It took me some more time to find suitable pictures that were even without copyrights. But here they are, hehe
