Character generators like this one are not just fun but they can also be very useful. For instance, when I first saw this one, my immediate inclination was to generate a caricature profile image for social media. Something not too serious, that could engender laughter from my friends and colleagues.

Images from any character generator can tell someone a lot about you. You may find them useful if you are new to the space/platform like @Steemit, @dtube, @dsound, @dlive, @steepshot and others. These images can let someone in on your heritage or origin story. You can match attributes like body-type, complexion, hairline and more. For me, giving my avatar a certain hue/color implies that I may be of African decent. My first and second avatars are somewhat realistic. The first is a normal portrait. The other is a portrait with me in glasses.

One can get some level of anonymity by disguising under a non-representative image. Other times, an avatar can represent one's alter ego, something far more removed from one's real make-up. In this case, a guy could elect to using an #oldlady, or #Spiderman avatar.

There are many reasons to using avatars in today's digital world. #Gamers and #second-lifers know a lot about this space. If you are never tried a character generator or had an avatar before, this may be a good start.

Personally, I have been meaning to get a new profile photo. I have been extremely busy with my day job, bringing a baby home, end-of-the-year and new year festivities that I think this will have to do it for me, for now.
