What Happened to Mad or Mentally Unstable People Medically
I grew up in a society whereby we tend to generalised every problem as to be spiritually tied or involved. Even though to an extent, it might be true but not always. I grew up believing that there are some illnesses that we faced in our body which are spiritual inclined. Thank God for more knowledge that one gained as one grew up, one begin to get exposed to the medical reasons why we suffer from those sicknesses and if only we can follow some medical precautions, we can free ourselves from those sicknesses in our body.
Take for example the issue of mad people or let me use the word mentally unstable people. It is quite often that most of the time we tend to label it to be tied to people who actually are suffering from spiritual forces. Well there are actually cases whereby it is spiritually inclined but I can tell you that it is not every time. It is not everyone that has mental illness that is controlled by evil spirits. Sometimes it can be because of some medical factors.
I was doing my research before writing this particular post and I discovered that for some mental illnesses cases, it is because of natural causes in our body like when it looks like the fluids flowing in our body is not balanced. Sometimes these can leads to issues like madness. Thank God for people like Hippocrates the great greek physicians that helps to open our eyes to it.
In olden days or decades ago, the way mental people are treated is quite terrible because they feared those evil spirits in those mental people can affect others to be mentally unstable also. Some of the form of treatments many decades ago is through beating of the mental people with a belief that probably it can cast out the evil spirits in them responsible for the mental illness. In some cases, it proves to be in vain.
It was in the 19th century that it looks like there is a massive improvement that has happened. We are now having some medical treatments which we called the psychiatric hospital for the treatment of mentally unstable people. We now have some medications that have been discovered which is going a long way to help in the treatments. I am talking about medications like the antipsychotics and antidepressants. All these two goes a long way to help treats people with such illness from the medical point of view and it has helped us to see improvements.
At least the perspective people have about mental illness is already changing. People have stopped believing that it is only spiritual inclined but are now believing that it can be a medical condition and not only that but the fact that there are potentials for it to be treated as it should be medically. If you will like me also, this has helped to reduce the stigmatisation that the mentally unstable people always face many years ago. Now you can leave with them as far as they are under their medications. For me, this is a big win and I am so sure as far as science and technology is concerned, we will still see more improvements coming in the future.
