Why do people live near volcanoes?

Volcanoes are basically big rocks that ooze lava and this seems pretty dangerous but people opt to live near them because they feel that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Some volcanoes erupt often but people think of them as predictable and some erupt with once in decade or something. The main reasons why people take this risk is to gain advantages such as minerals, geothermal energy, fertile soils and tourism.

Minerals are a way to stabilize economy because when they mine minerals like tin, silver, gold, copper and even diamonds they can sell them later on which makes profit to then invest in more projects in the city. Geothermal energy is also a benefit of living near because it becomes a renewable source of energy and you can focus on other problems in the area.
