Ulog 81: My Sunday: A New Smoker & The First Of The Year's Tornado Warning Happened

in #powerhousecreatives5 years ago (edited)

Welcome To The Homestead!

YES... We are the proud owners of a Master Built Propane Smoker!

Granted it is used (maybe a dozen times from the previous owners) but it is NEW to us!

This particular model ranges in price from about $150-$200 depending where you purchase it, but we got it for a whopping $75! AWESOME deal in my book!

Yesterday we raided the freezer and took out some salmon, a pork butt and some baby back ribs; and today I was outside getting this baby ready for some smoking.

I had soaked the apple wood chunks overnight, prepped the meat in their assigned marinades and rubs and Mr Golden D found me out there when he woke up. I had the smoker warming up and reaching the desired temperature (salmon is up first since it requires a lower temperature than the pork products) and I am ready to roll!

The smoker is warming up... the salmon is ready to go and we are salivating inside the house waiting for the delicacies that await us later today.

After the day is over and our bellies are full, I'll be taking the extra smoked pork butt and canning it in my (also) new pressure canner for later use. A ten-pound pork butt made into pulled pork is WAY TOO MUCH for the two of us right now; so I'll be canning it for usage later when we need a quick meal.

Spring not only means sunny days, gardening season kick-off and warmer days here, it also means tornado warnings and severe weather in my neck of the woods.

We had just arrived back to the homestead when the storm rolled in!

We got the smoker unloaded (which seemed to take forever considering I can't really use my left arm and hand) and got things put away in the shed when the rain started.

But it wasn't the rain that had us worried. It was when the local warning alarm at the fire station less then a mile away began whirling through the air.

Apparently a funnel cloud developed about two miles to the north of us had been identified. Luckily for us it was heading northeast.

But still... It has been decades since I've heard a warning siren go off!

Bet you enjoy your smoker. Looks a bit easier than ours (wood stove and small building) but should yield the same good results.

here in Western Mass we are not typically prone to tornadoes, at least in the past. But we've had several rip through over the last few years, and it can be very scary. We don't have sirens, as it's not something common here.
