This should be an issue for the steemit devs, not the users. It's accurately tagged nsfw so it's up to the front end client to filter that according to user preferences.
We intend to. It hasn't been an issue until recently and our small team is focused more on bringing more people to the site than keeping people from running away. Ultimately the people who have never heard of us are a bigger market.
We'll get there soon. 2017 is going to be a tremendously huge year for steemit.com.
They will probably implement changes for nsfw at some point. Or maybe a separate hard forked site for porn will happen at some point. Like Golos.io for russian speakers.

Getting flagged isn't that big of a deal - especially when you're trying to break in a new market. Things can get hidden in the UI but never deleted.
Even if your posts continue to get hidden you'll eventually build a following and people will seek you out. Don't lose faith just yet :).
