RE: Last encounters with the planet Venus

in Popular STEM5 years ago

It is not possible to take high-resolution imagery of Venus with the science cameras onboard either mission – Solar Orbiter must remain facing the Sun, and the main camera onboard BepiColombo is shielded by the transfer module that will deliver the two planetary orbiters to Mercury.

Huh. You really do learn something new every day.

Apparently, we have only 4 surface photos of Venus. Most images are of the thick, corrosive clouds that cover the planet.

In 1975 and 1982, 4 Soviet Union probes captured panoramic images of the surface of Venus.

Cool!

Looks like the BepiColombo spacecraft will get us more cloud images on its way past.

Good pics.

The missions are like that, it is a combination of planning and adaptation, if you have an objective why not make sub-objectives ... greetings.

Yes, even though the primary camera on BepiColombo can't get pics, well get some from its other cameras. Good thing the engineers think ahead.
