You cannot rewrite history! Ask the Communists.
When I was a kid in Communist Romania, conversations with Grandma would sometimes stumble because we lived in different eras. She'd say something like: “You know that shop down on Queen Mary Boulevard..”
I'd stare at her a few moments and reply like the little smart-ass I was: “Oh, you mean the March 6th Boulevard?”.
I was raised under a Communist regime and had only a vague idea about history. Naturally I would look down on poor Grandma, that had not moved on with the times.
I sometimes still refer to that road using its Communist name and my daughter gives me the same annoyed look “You mean the Queen Mary Boulevard?”
Queen Mary got her boulevard back. And a statue.
The Communists did a very thorough job trying to erase the past and create an alternative history. It worked, but only for a time.
The deluded Antifa militants toppling statues and changing names they don't like probably think they're being very progressive and original. No, you stupid ignorant masses, it's been done before plenty of times, not only by Communists, and it failed every time.
Unpersons
I grew up without any knowledge of recent history because the Communists had eradicated any trace of the “white slave owners”, which, in our country were the “greedy land-owners and big industrialists that exploited the poor”. All rich families were blacklisted. Politicians, civil servants, military, writers, doctors, teachers – unpersons, written out of history books.
Historical events were twisted beyond recognition. The national day was changed.
Some of the people that were taught this brave new history believe to this day that most of it was still true. The uneducated, those that would never open a book, those too arrogant to even consider that their beliefs might be wrong.
Fortunately, they don't get to write the history books. The real books are being written by those that knew the past, by those that remembered, by those that kept diaries of the horrors they've been through. All that was possible before computers and Internet. If history was not lost in the days when owing a type-writer was a criminal offense, how can these idiots believe you can reinvent history now?

The truth remembered
Last I've heard, they're talking about destroying Mount Rushmore and removing mentions of Washington and Jefferson. Earlier, I saw on my news feed a defaced bust of Abe Lincoln. No, snowflakes, you won't be able to eliminate the founding fathers of your country out of history.
Communists tried to eradicate all memory of our royal family, the founding fathers of modern Romania. To this day there are some who still believe the Communist's lie that our last monarch, King Michael, stole train-loads of gold when he was forced to flee the country in 1947. Much to the dismay of the entitled morons, those that remembered taught the others the truth. The King was written back into the history books.
And in his people's hearts. This is the welcome he received when he was allowed to set foot again on Romanian soil.

A few years ago, when King Michael was still in good health I took both my kids to see him at the unveiling of...yes, a statue. Because, in the end, he got his statue back. My kids will remember and they will tell their kids and they will remember, too.

Bonus fact:
I'm sure most of you are familiar with the name of Nicolae Ceausescu, Romania's Communist dictator. He was not eliminated from textbooks, nor from public memory. For now, we - his freed slaves - despise those who still worship him, but we don't get to write history and I think it's too early to say what will his chapter say some hundred years from now.
Note to snowflakes: Although the horror of his reign is still fresh with us, Ceausescu's grave was never vandalized.
You can blame "liberal" for being too sensitive and trying to right the wrongs of the past and you can blame "conservatives" for holding on to a past way of life that is not conducive of the direction the world is moving to.
History has always been full of lies and distorted. It's how you control the populous. What is going on in america has always been there people just needed an excuse to make it boil over. Just buy Bitcoin and hedge against the uncertainty.

Yes, in a real comunism they will be take into re-education camps, jails or into the military... I am from Cuba and that was what happens in the 70s and 80s... too much secret police in the street for to permit this kind of behavior...

I wish I could upvote this a billion times over. What is happening in America right now is making me sick to my stomach! Future Americans are being ROBBED of their RIGHT to the America that the founding fathers envisioned, and penned The Constitution for. The silent majority can stay silent no longer. There is a civil war coming, people!! And I don't know about anyone else, but I personally am not looking forward having my blood spilled out by some snot-nosed 20 year old who thinks this nonsense is cute. God's saving grace for me now, is that I'm an armed Texan.

Well written. Thank you for doing this. I believe it is important for people that have lived through scenarios these new people think are "progressive" and can tell them first hand what happens. It is interesting because, this was not just Romania. I have heard many similar accounts from countries overthrown by communism. Actually every time I've had a chance to speak or read anyone that was there during or immediately after the event I get similar stories. So these protestors who think they are "progressive" in pushing for this are actually regressive. They do not learn from history. Perhaps this is why they are so fond of erasing it and editing it. If it doesn't fit their narrative rather than considering the evidence and that there might be something wrong with their narrative they instead ignore or erase the evidence so that they fantasy idea remains intact. I consider them fools for doing this.
They also have arguments they are presenting as though they are new. If they visited mises.org or other places they will find many older documents based around scholarly debates between socialists, communists, and capitalists. Their arguments are not generally new at all, and often they are fumbling attempts at what their predecessors did far better long ago. Yet that requires knowing history rather than ignoring it, editing it, or erasing it.
They will also send me recommendations to read this guy that is popular proponent of Communism on Reddit and who has written books. He is a partially balding guy with glasses and wild side hair. So almost a Benjamin Franklin style hairdo.
I read some of his stuff when it was recommended to me. There is a problem I've studied critical thinking. Appeals to Authority, Appeals to Emotion, Appeals to Tradition, Bandwagon, Red Herring, Generalizations, Slippery Slopes, and all of these concepts are things I am more and more instinctively getting better at noticing. This persons book was so full of those from the outset it was very difficult to take them seriously. I could see where there was the attempt to sway me with emotion, sway me with a generalization, and condemn those who wouldn't jump on the bandwagon. These are all logical fallacies. How was I supposed to take this guy seriously? In what world would I consider such writing impressive? It actually, pushed me the other direction rather than convincing me.
The problem is they don't teach critical thinking skills in education here in the U.S. anymore, and I don't know about other countries. Not having those skills makes us easier to manipulate by using those exact fallacies. For most people they are not a red flag, they don't even notice them, and they are convinced/manipulated by them. I suspect this is by design. The further you get from critical thinking skills the more effective emotion, divide and conquer, and propaganda become.

I've read parts of your comment twice because I frankly cannot understand that some people would actively want Communism in this day and age. I cannot understand how is this possible. I guess most of those that embrace such views are upset with rich people and inequalities. (I'm upset myself with some very rich guys.) However, Communism does not solve inequalities. The Communist leaders would still be rich, but the masses would be poor to the point of starvation. It's been like this everywhere they've tried it. Doesn't work. Why would an ordinary American, even an unemployed one, want that is beyond me. (Not to mention you would not be aloud to protest anymore.)
As for the lack of critical thinking, I don't think they teach that anywhere at present. And social media only make things worse, because you cannot be on Facebook and not have an opinion, even if you don't care much about politics and have never read a history book in your life. You will adopt the opinion prevalent in your group, like what they like, feel outrage at the appropriate time... go to a protest. Use the resist hashtag. This part actually hasn't got anything to do with the US. We have the same hashtag here...for different reasons, but the manipulation technique is the same.

Dumbed down. React to pure emotion, and often treat emotion as more true than facts. Rather than truly learning if they want to believe something that is enough to make it REAL. It also helps that they don't bother to actually research history and just take the word of some authority figure that supposedly did the research for them so they don't have to put forth that effort.

Great post as always. It's just a misery that western spoiled brats think they want communism. They are deranged, and should listen to people who KNOW actual communism.
I have trouble understanding the idea that some Americans might actually want communism. I'd really love to see some of these antifa idiots getting some first-hand experience of communism... that's a reality show I'd watch.

We'll, they are shutting down totally legitimate speakers like Jordan Peterson, Milo, Ben Shapiro and even Richard Spencer and Jared Taylor. You don't have to agree with them, but the fascist is the ones that is trying to hinder the people they disagree with. "I disagree, but I will fight to death to let you speak your opinion"
You may not like nationalist walking in the streets, but them being able to do that is way more important than what their message is.
Leftists shutting down free speech is nothing new. We see that all the time in Scandinavia too. Every time a nationalist or even libertarian is speaking, or there is a walk or assembly, the leftists and communists are showing up trying to destroy the meetup. They interfere by shouting or causing violence and chaos.
In Norway they recently even made threats to burn down a book-shop because the owner let a nationalist speak there at an event.

I think your basic problem of understanding here is that ANTIFA does not mean they like communism. They may or may not, but that are two completely independent things.
It is the same with Dogs. ANTIFA people might like dogs or not, but that has nothing to do with being ANTIFA.

Since you mentioned that - it is a good example how easy it is to fool people. We were all happy to see them dead. Only much later we understood that in a real trial they could've said important things about who was involved in the Romanian revolution. Basically, they were killed before they could talk.
I do remember when the whole thing happened. Good for the people of Romania he is gone.
