Holding CPS to Standards They Hold Parents

The amount of powers bestowed on a CPS case worker is simply insane. A single individual has the powers to take a child away based on his/her perception of abuse; A single individual makes the rules, sets the precedent and enforces as they see fit. A single individual acts as judge, jury and executioner, literally shattering several lives - which could simply be based on a bad day.

We all knows what happens when a family marked down for investigation doesn't quite suite the taste of the case worker involved . However, when are we going to start demanding the same level of impossible and unfair standards that most parents are subjected to in other to keep their kids? What if the Government were held for every error, every mistake and every oversight concerning the Children in their custody?

Take for instance when kids go missing or something even worse happens to them under Government custody, and there have been quite a few of them, who shoulders the responsibility? The case worker? Department of Children and Family Services? Who? Does someone get to answer for every perceived error or mistake on the path of the government? On what then is the basis for holding parents to intense scrutiny and unfair standards? I'm sorry am asking more questions than providing answers but am just as confused as anybody else on this one.

If the Government and its proxies were held liable for every action and was placed under scrutiny for the children they take into custody, then the real hypocrisy of the so called Child welfare system would be visible for all to see.

I think we all should be versed with our rights and the law, especially as it relates to what the state can and cannot do in its 'interventions'. At the very least, it will reduce the seeming absolute powers of Case workers and empower more parents .
