Blockchain Can Make Government Work Better. It Just Needs a Push.
We live in weird times now and I think a lot about politics and it's future, especially since I found out how endless the possibilities of blockchain are--and how it can influence government in a positive way.
Think about the position of the financial sector, Smart contracts and cryptocurrencies can help to make that way more efficient.
Think about healthcare, this could be so much cheaper and more efficient without all the paper work bureaucratic steps.
Think about taxes, which will become so much cheaper when smart money can be automatically collected, wiping out a lot of bullshit jobs.
Think about local money, where cryptocurrencies for every city can stimulate locale economies.
We've got to figure out ways to engage governments and erase politicians' fear of integrating decentralized methods.

You are absolutely correct that blockchain can make the world a much more efficient and reliable place.
However, it is unlikely to make government so, although I hope you're right, and it does. One of the most salient features of government is that, while government is just an agreement, it is delegated the authority of the citizens, and staffed by personnel.
Those personnel, from the lowliest civil servant at the DMV, or Post Office, to the head of state, are all empowered with the authority of the citizens they are supposed to serve, and there certainly are some that do their best to provide good service.
All too often, though, some of the personnel decide that their own nests need more feathers, and use their positions of authority to violate the authority of citizens and sell information, or favors, or even executions of the enemies of those that will pay.
In America, and I suspect most places in the world, this problem of corruption is highly entrenched, with families succeeding one another in certain posts, relationships that are multigenerational between criminals, gangs, and certain government agencies. For example, it isn't even secret anymore that the CIA is the largest drug dealer in the world.
For these corrupt agencies and personnel, the blockchain is a terrible threat to their business model. Such corruption isn't limited to government either, and private industry, particularly finance, engineer their business so as to extract maximum returns for their effort, and black market profits are neither taxed, nor regulated - especially when you can buy corrupt LEOs to protect you, and bust your enemies.
Because of these entrenched interests that the blockchain is a terrible threat to, the rest of government personnel, many of whom are principled people that would hardly believe some of their coworkers are venal and corrupt, are probably going to be convinced that blockchain won't work, or limits their ability to exercise their discretion, that they use to select particularly worthy beneficiaries of their programs, and so is unacceptable.
I believe that the best way to let the blockchain improve the world, is to replace government altogether. While there will be resistance to this new world order, I do not think it can prevent the blockchain from making corruptible government obsolete.
I don't think corrupt government personnel will allow blockchain to be employed to make their jobs go away, be only conducted with integrity, or otherwise end their power and wealth.
We're just gonna have to do it ourselves.
I actually don't think that government is what it is now on purpose but just by accident when a bunch of people asked for power to "protect" it's citizens and over the years they took more and more power till what it is now. . But now as it is what it is people are afraid to lose jobs and I thank that's the main reason government doesn't like change anymore. But there will be change, that always happens. for example the bitcoin price last month went crazy and now it is more in balance again.

Some years ago I knew a guy who, with his friends, went in on a kilo of cocaine. They were gonna get rich. Shortly thereafter he committed suicide, reportedly, by shooting himself twice in the chest with a lever action rifle, according to local police.
There was no further investigation, and immediately after that, the police were selling cocaine out of their squad cars.
That's what I think of government.
That's why I think they'll make the sign of the cross whenever blockchain comes near them.
There are certain benefits of blockchain that, rather than making government more efficient, can make government obsolete. Records, such as birth certificates, death certificates, car titles, and property titles can be verified via blockchain. This would completely negate the need for sizable government programs. The applications are nearly endless. This is why governments are slow to accept blockchain, because it diminishes the need for them, their services, and ultimately their power. All good things for the rest of us.
I really hope that governments can begin to embrace blockchain!
