North Carolina gym owners discover loophole and use it

in #politics4 years ago

The fact that certain parts of society are allowed to re open but others are not seem to be a completely arbitrary decision by our Governor, who hopefully will be out of the job soon. I can't imagine too many people that are going to vote for him again next time since he has basically destroyed a great many businesses by excessive lockdown.

Restaurants, campgrounds, and tatoo parlors are all open, but gyms remain closed and this has resulted in one of the things that only recently became popular in North Carolina, a state pretty well known for being a bit out of shape, to close down permanently. When you are not allowed to go to a gym what do you suppose the chances are that people are going to continue with their memberships?

I don't go to a gym because my job entails that I perform physical exercise on a daily basis, which is one of the things I really enjoy about working in construction. However, I do know a lot of people that have a membership to a gym and were going several times a week. Physical fitness, even if you are doing it wrong is important I think and even a redneck realizes that many health problems can be avoided by simply doing a bit of work at the gym.

The wildly unpopular Governor Cooper has vetoed propositions by the state legislators to ease restrictions on gyms but something was recently discovered by one gym owner and the use of this loophole is being used by many patrons as directed by the gym owners.

As it turns out you can legally attend a "closed" gym if you have a doctor's note and the word spreads very quickly about which doctors will issue this note to anyone. The reason why it is so easy to get this doctor's note is because I think you would be pretty hard-pressed to discover any doctor that is going to say that exercise is not a part of any person's well-being and health. Therefore, the only thing gym junkies need to do is to visit the doctor, get the note, and now they can legally attend the gym.

This is a bit of a celebration on my part even though I haven't set foot inside of a gym other than to pick up a friend of mine whose car died in the parking lot, in around 20 years. The celebration is bittersweet though because in the face of tyranny on the part of the government, we have to resort to chinks in the armor instead of not needing to fight altogether.

The thing that makes this more upsetting for us as North Carolinians is the fact that gyms are open in 47 of the 50 states leaving just us, California, and New York as the ones that are not allowed to reopen our fitness centers. If there is one thing that I can promise you about Carolinians, particularly of the redneck variety, we do NOT like being in the same category as California and New York.

The fact that North Carolina has one of the lower death percentages at only 25 per 100,000 residents whereas New York has 169 makes us believe that our governor truly has his head in the sand. Massachusetts has 150 and their gyms are open.

The people of North Carolina hopefully have learned something about our leadership when the elections come back around in 2020. I'm not just talking about the Presidential election but also about Governor Cooper here in North Carolina. I really can't imagine he will get voted back in and I know if there is a single person in my community that supports this man, they are being very quiet about it.
