Often Criticized by Trump, FBI Senior Officer Andrew McCabe is Fired
Andrew McCabe, one of the top officials of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (US), was sacked by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. McCabe has been accused by US President Donald Trump of being biased about the world of US politics.
Last January, McCabe resigned from the post of deputy director of the FBI and has been on leave until now.
He was involved in the FBI's investigation of Hillary Clinton's email usage and alleged Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election.
McCabe's dismissal came two days before the 50th anniversary celebration, which he will quit the FBI with a pension.
The dismissal step recommended an internal investigation of the US Justice Department, which concluded that McCabe "issued a statement that has not been approved to the media office."
"Based on the Inspector General's report, the FBI's findings, and the recommendation of senior officials, I suspend the employment status of Andrew McCabe as soon as possible," Sessions said.
McCabe called this dismissal an assault on his credibility. He also considers this move as a "broad effort" to discredit the US intelligence community.
He believes he was fired for witnessing certain events and for his role after James Comey was fired from the FBI director's office last year.
Trump fired Comey in July last year over an investigation into Clinton's personal email scandal. But some critics of the Democratic Party judge Comey's dismissal is a punishment from Trump regarding alleged Russian involvement in the US presidential election.
During this time Trump regularly criticized McCabe. Last December, he wrote on Twitter that, "FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is trying to retire with a full retirement benefit, there are still 90 days left."
