Why Celebrities & Politics Don't Mix!

It seems that no matter where we turn in today's society, we are constantly confronted with some celebritie pushing their political stance on us. I'm all for the freedom of speech, but in my opinion a good majority of celebrities are abusing their platform. Whether you're a "left winger" or a "deplorable" celebrities have done a great job to segregate their once loyal audiences. With so much hate in the world, they really add fuel to the fire with their extreme campaigns of their political stances. But this isn't just aimed at us common working folk, they've also taken aim right there in the world of Hollywood. While I truly believe that politics have no place in the entertainment industry, I have to hand it to Tim Allen for being able to bring humor to a topic that has everyone's panties in a twist. I loved his show "Last Man Standing" While he never beats around the bush about his political stance, he never held a rally to scream, rant, and rave about his political beliefs. I commend him for being able to find a way to poke fun in his show about both parties really. There were always funny political views on both sides of the fence that really showcased how ridiculous and/or funny reality can be. However, a large number of those in Hollywood were quick to have his show taken off the air, all the while claiming to support the freedom of speech. Really what the message here was that they support the freedom of speech....so long as you agree with our points of view. The station claimed that it was canceling the show due to rattings and acclaim, but those loyal to the show know this is just a B.S. filled lie. Fans were quick to show their support and started a petition that quickly gained more than 115,000 signatures, sadly to no avail. When Tim Allen finally broke his silence, he stated he was "stunned and blindsided by the network I called home for the last six years" There are however some celebrities who choose to keep politics out of their careers all together. People like Billy Joel, Mark Wahlberg, and Gene Simmons who have all in one way or another have no desire to push their political beliefs on their fans. I've ALWAYS been a huge Reba McEntire fan, but I love her even more after she stated “I take it this way: they have paid their hard-earned money to come in there and fill a seat — parking, getting something at the concession stand, go and eat before the concert — I am there to entertain them, to take their worries away from them, so when they walk out, they can kind of have a little lift in their step and go, ‘Aw, that was such a great break from all the problems I have to deal with during daily life.’ So I’m not going to give them my political views,” She also added “That’s not as important as this is my job to entertain. It shouldn’t be my platform to be up on stage giving my political views.” Another celeb who gets HUGE props for his anti political views is Kevin Hart. He gained so much of my respect when he stated in an interview with Variety, ““When you jump into that political realm you’re alienating some of your audience, He went on to say“The world today, it’s really not a laughing matter. It’s serious,” he added. “I don’t want to draw attention to things I don’t have nice things to say about.” THANK YOU!!! In my honest opinion, he really hit the nail on the head there! I use to be a big fan of Ashton Kutcher, Meryl Streep, Eva Longoria, Demi Lavato, Madona, and Ashley Judd just to name a few. But since they feel the need to use their celebrity status to talk down to those who don't agree with their beliefs, I have opted to no longer be a loyal fan. It's true what Kevin Hart said, “When you jump into that political realm you’re alienating some of your audience,” If someone in Hollywood feels the need to be so political then they are in the wrong business and should become a politician instead. I think everyone can agree no matter what party you identify with, the oscars wasn't an award show, but rather an opportunity to further segregate their own fans. Regardless of who our president is now or in the future, we need to all be adults about the outcome and stand UNITED through thick and thin like the Americans we claim to be. Until then, other countries see us as a hot mess truly dived. I hope this article gives you something to think about the next time you tune into a rally supported by those in Hollywood. A huge thank you to those few celebrities who know how to keep politics out of their careers. YOU truly know that without the common hard working man, your fans, you wouldn't be where you are today. I leave you all with this simple request, be kind to one another regardless of your party. At the end of the day, we're ALL Americans!
