Tiger loose on Interstate 75 South of Atlanta

This morning, I awoke to news that a Tiger was freely roaming the area of a major interstate just South of Atlanta. This is a major thoroughfare from the Northeast USA to Florida. Several people at around 4 a.m. witnessed the tiger roaming the area and called Police.
According to Henry County Police, they didn't believe 911 calls of a Tiger on the interstate were legitimate at first. The area is near a large residential area where small children were waiting for morning school bus routes. Several people witnessed the tiger in their front and back yards. Authorities do not have any idea where the tiger came from but described it as an adult, very large, tiger.
Unfortunately, after the tiger began jumping a fence leading to another residential area and attacking a dog, Police were forced to shoot and kill the tiger.

Personally, I am saddened to see police having to shoot the animal. Tigers are one of the most majestic animals on the planet. Having been in law enforcement as long as I have, I realize that they did the best they could. I don't think there is a police organization in the U.S. who is equipped to handle something as crazy as a tiger roaming loose. According to some news reports, they were attempting to wait for animal control who may have had tranquiler guns. Unfortunately, animal control doesn't work 24 hour shifts and they probably didn't have anyone awake at 4 a.m. who could respond in time.
I'd also like to highlight what crazy things police must go through on a daily basis. I am positive that every Officer working at that time never would have thought they'd be hunting a tiger at 4 a.m. on a Wednesday morning. Policing is one of the craziest and exciting professions in the world.
