Cracked Sidewalk - Original Poetry

This cracked sidewalk,
my path away from the pain.
Dirty, and covered in chalk,
clouded memories from the rain.

No matter which way I turn,
the hurt will follow,
this flame will always burn.
A love I'll never swallow.

Alone on this cold, dark night,
pushing myself to carry-on.
Longing for your love, my spotlight,
before remembering you're gone.

Why can't this path take me back,
to a time before I hurt you.
Putting us back on track,
before the cracks broke through.

Roots of our love exposed,
winters chill filling the gap,
'til the fruit is decomposed,
unable to survive the cold snap.
