Life's lessons from 20 months on a blockchain.

in #poetry5 years ago

blockchains.
money.
carnival games.
casinos.
alcohol.
drugs.
dreams.
friendships.
loves.
lives.

they offer everything
and nothing.

anything.
everything.

no one really ever wins,
no matter what.
everything always ends,
with some kind of loss,
with some kind of grief.

every memory fades.
we're in them all together,
yet simultaneously,
we're in them all alone.

always, never.
never, always.

sometimes,
every time.

nothing lasts forever.

no matter how good it felt for a moment.
an end is the only thing guaranteed.

but for a moment,
everything was worth something.

and everything will change,
in a moment.

don't worry about what all this means.

think about it all,
but don't give it much thought.
it's not worth the time.

This is a sort of dark poem but the ending is uplifting. I enjoyed it. I wish I had the ability to put my thoughts into words.

It's a very dark poem. Perhaps the ending is uplifting, but it's also upsetting. It's all shades of gray. It's always shades of gray.

Would be easier if things were just black & white. I outgrew that world-outlook a few years ago. Does not make life easier for me, but does make me less judgemental of others. I am still a work in process though.

When I finally arrive, I will wave to everyone from a fiery-chariot as it rises into Paradise.

I like this ... . and can totally relate.

Reminds me a bit of the early Porcupine Tree song, "Always, Never."

You might like it. ;-)

Always never, never always is a recurring theme in my life. In the literal sense, but also the poetic/lyrical sense. I first wrote the words into a poem of my own last year here on the chain. I didn't know it was used so specifically before in a song, but I certainly didn't entertain the notion I was the only one to ever notice the word play there. Never heard of the song or band/artist you referred to, but I will be surely checking them out now.

Yet at the end of it all, it makes sense!

Great saying we have in Afrikaans "Ja/Nee" = "Yes/No"

Sounds like me.
My husband and I have a running joke, and my frequent answer to his question (regardless of subject) is " Tak, nie, mose," which is Polish for "Yes, no, maybe."

Note that the "o" in mose should have an accent over it.

And the funny thing about Polish is that sometimes we'll switch around the order of the words, which in English would make little difference, but in Polish gives entirely different meanings. ;-)

no matter how good it felt for a moment.......an end is the only thing guaranteed.

....and every end is simultaneously a new beginning

....and every perception of an 'end' is a perception of an end, it may or may not really be an end.

Freedom is often cited as Ms. Joplin's song lyric says, just another word for nothing left to lose. But perhaps it is also another word for having no more concerns about gains.

Agree, works both ways IMO. I consider financial 'security' to be the extent to which I worry about money/gains etc, irrespective of how much material 'wealth' I may actually have. Insecure with loads, or secure with little (but enough for immediate needs); perhaps perceptions in the end, both these states of mind.

no one really ever wins,....no matter what.

...perhaps 'unless everybody does' !?

Nobody is everybody. I'm nobody. Nobody's perfect.

LOL me too :)

Do not evah say I do not show up to your posts!!!

Thank you friend, may I have another?

Mom said "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything." :)

The tao, really.

Ha the Tao of Cork - smoke , drink coffee and eat them alive ;) but not before passing on wisdom that will crush their soul JK ;)

It's the wisdom that tends to be the sticky wicket for most people.
