Mam and Darlin and Sugar have very similar meanings down here. The particular relationship defines the word. There are nuances that range from sweet like holding your baby daughter, to respectfully greeting a woman, to flirting. Just depends on the relationship.
Yes, here too ;-) Though darlin not as common.
