What Kind Of Life Is This? (Written for a Friend Who Just Passed)

What kind of life is this?
Where the aged die daily,
And children die, and babies
And strong and vibrant young men die?
Men in the prime of their lives
With their brains full of plans
And their hearts full to bursting with hopes?
Men with power and potential
With super strength and vision
And filled with great zest for the future?

What kind of life is this?
Where you are here one second
And gone the next instant
With no notice or warning whatsoever?
Years of preparing for the future
Amounting to great nothing
With the light of a life gone forever.

What is the point of it all?
If we do not do nothing
Or get to achieve some of our dreams?
All the fun and the games
The work and the worry
Extinguished in a horrifying instant.

What is the point of even loving?
Of caring for another
If all it ends up in is grief and wailing?
Life is a galley of gallows
With fickle fate her captain
And rowers who have no say in the journey.

This is so touching. Accident is the most heartbreaking way a person can die. May the person this poem is dedicated to rest in peace.

Thanks @paramimd. It wasn't an accident... It was a heart attack, if you can believe it. He was just 25. 😞
