POETRY BUCKETLIST... [Episode 2] - INTO THE PARLIAMENT

INTO THE PARLIAMENT

I trickled down the stairs slowly, furtive,
Snaking my way through sullen alleys
I listen to the howls, the winds are active
Feeling the cold stone beneath my flesh,
I continued this journey, I could not rest.

Out of such sombre place
I quickly stumbled out
Into the sun, I found my face
Joy had filled me now, no doubt.

I took a step, then walked across
Feet gliding across, I felt wet moss
Press against my sole; cold as ice
I scurried away now, swift as mice.

I journeyed on till I found them;
Apparelled in white, black...
Coats on, shoes; tar-black.

I found them now, they sat in twos
Their voices danced in eloquent speech
Ah, I thought, this place ain't for fools.

I drew closer and let out a hand
He took it, shook it, and gave me a pat
Furtive, I simply gave my name and sat.

Speaking as he did, with tone so smooth,
He let out those words that tended my mood
"I'm Michael", he says, "you're welcome"
"This is the Parliament, I hope you're a Poet"
My tummy tightens, I inwardly hum;
Gracious Lord, only thou knowest.
