Tell not my husband
That you saw me in the dark
My gown flowing in the evening wind
Beneath the elephantine mango tree
Where traders sell cocoyam in the morning
And old men play Ayo in the afternoon
Tell not my husband
That you found me with a towering man
Whose large chest can stop a bullet
His hairy arms running across my waist
And his lips and mine locked
Like two fighting rams.
Tell not my unemployed husband
That the soup he ate last night
Came not from my purse
But by the hand of the man in the dark
