Annoyance in the ear of the battered ... I get his haiku all too well:)
It was a spiritual practice...
At first they cared about their dogs barking. Then it seemed out of their control. Then they'd get in a big fight. Maybe the police were called. Then they'd get another dog. In the end, they had 8 dogs. The dogs would bark. My neighbors, sitting on the side porch smoking, more or less miserable with their lives, would shout at the dogs knowing the futility. Everyone barking. No one listening. Everyone stuck. Eventually they divorced. The dogs were scattered to the winds. Finally, they moved out.
Now it's quiet.
