FAMILIAR STRANGERS

Two fools rush into promises of happiness
Blinded by ego they fail to see the sadness just beyond the veil
She naively sets off to fix an unbroken man
To mold him into the perfect husband of fairy tale dreams
Overcome by boyish lust he gravely miscalculates
Thinking that she will fulfill his deep-rooted needs

Together they settle
Into life's mundane
While it slowly drives them both insane
Routine abounds
Bills must be paid
Irrevocable commitments are the order of the day
Personal fulfillment and higher purpose
The quest for adventure must forever wait

Time rapidly sifts away
His charm fades
Her inspiring beauty wanes
As the seasons pass them by
Like the pages of a bad novel so inexplicably dry
They wonder as their youth has disappeared
How has life gone so awry

Passion for life precariously lost
I miss those dreamy nights spent gazing into the future
With optimism and wonder
Its unwritten pages now replaced with sloth and slumber
No longer excited by a hope
That time yet remains and all is not lost
Maybe still however
You are the one to warm a heart that's wandered far
And become so distant and cold
Its penchant for love is buried in frost
