That Positive Part of You: Episode 254
When Freud founded psychoanalysis, he talked to a lot of people, wondering what was within them. He thought that humans might have a bestial nature, that the appearance of humanity is something like a veneer on top of animal desires.
Later psychologists such as Maslow and Rogers went a little deeper. They said yes, Freud is correct, but he did not dig deep enough.
On the surface, we find the niceties of human beings, below that some impure desires, and deeper still we find that human nature is inherently good, positive and even sweet.
It seems like so many people are afraid to look within, scared that they might find something truly awful. Yet all they need do is go a little further, and find that positive part of themselves.
