Something that I was unaware of...

According to the book "1001 all-natural secrets to a pest free property - page 328", you need to keep an eye on the standing water that may collect in the drip pan that rests under your potted plants. It claims that just one inch of water left for a week can permanently damage the roots of the potted plant.
I am fairly sure your roots would need to be near the bottom of the container.

What I would suggest to avoid such a problem is to remove the drip pan before watering the plant. Take your plant to a container (bathtub sink etc.) that holds water. Set the container into the water and allow the plant to soak in the water for awhile.

Then drain the container (bathtub, sink, etc.), a s let the plant drain as well. Once the plant no longer is dripping water, then remove the plan and rattch the drip pan.
