Hello steemit, today I bring you some photographs of a trip we made to Valencia, we took advantage that we had to take our daughter to see a concert in Sala Matisse and we had all day to know this city, and we got to it. I had been on occasion but always for work reasons, we take a pleasant surprise is a modern city and at the same time with a very old past full of great stories.

We started to walk towards the historic center since the Hall is in one of its neighborhoods, this time the photographs i have selected are of gargoyle that are on the back facade of the Cathedral of Valencia next to the Plaza de la Almoina where it is located the Archaeological Center of La Almoina, in whose subsoil you can visit the remains of the Roman Visigoda and Arab architecture in good condition.

On another occasion we will visit him since that day did not give us time.
The gargoyls are drains adorned with different shapes influenced by medieval bestiaries religious beliefs and superstitions although not all fulfilled that functionality, the ones we saw are on the facade of the door of La Almoina and are visible from the floor as they were normally built in towers or roofed at high altitude seating being only visible from the sky of the Cathedral or access overhangs for conservation.

These two with anthropomorphic animal forms represent a wolf that in the Gothic era from which dating is often associated with the demon with the sins of the gula greed and sometimes represented heresy.

This photograph is of the facade where these gargoylas are located as well as others that I detail below, I show it to you so that you appreciate how low they are.

The best known and photographed gargoyus of the Cathedral is this one that represents a woman who, as you know, takes breasts, her purpose is to scandalize represented the sin of lust, and as a lesson of what should not be done.

Other examples of gargoyres on the same facade of La Almoina, one depicts a clergy character with his hand in a sign of blessing and the other by the costume could be a public character of the time also with his hand in welcome.

These gargoyle that we can contemplate today are beginning to be built during the Gothic period of the Cathedral of Valencia, it was intended that they were like a book to communicate the clergy with the plain people and guarded by the hand of God, more than 50 have been counted among the Cat edral and La Torre de El Miguelete, surely the next time we go to a church or cathedral we will look at them differently
I took the photographs with my smartphone and I could not photograph the ones that were in the Miguelete why I do not have good zoom, the information I have taken from the pages of Google Maps of the city of Valencia and the page https://valencia hypotheses . org/103 who did a great study work on gargoyes .
I hope you like this little dose of history.
