For my dear lovers cactus lovers I bring a special with a lot of fabulous information.

Cacti are xerophilous plants, that is, they are prepared to survive in very arid climates, with lots of sunlight and little water. This is why if you want to add a cactus to your garden you should bear in mind that it does not need much care, in fact the most common mistake is to keep the soil moist, thinking that this will make our cactus grow faster. They need the land around their roots to dry before the next irrigation and of course access to a lot of sun.

It is said that cacti are native to America, although they can be found in places like Africa or Madagascar, naturally possibly by migratory birds who consume their seeds and then during their long trips make their feces.

The main reason that cacti are not natural species around the world are the low temperatures that these could experience in some countries for the winter seasons, the vast majority of cacti are not prepared for low temperatures and this in combination with excess of liquid could be fatal, since the roots and body of the cactus are not designed for very high temperatures (reverse process we see in ferns which are not prepared for high temperatures).

According to my boyfriend @franqueff (agronomist), A very curious fact about the cactus is that as a preservation mechanism to live in such extreme conditions, the evolution has developed in the cactus the ability to keep their stomata closed during the day allowing them to avoid loss of water (evapotranspiration), this makes it impossible to do the gas exchange during the day, that is why they perform it during the night in the coolest hours, that is to say unlike most plants the cactus Absorb carbon dioxide at night and perform day photosynthesis.

In the pictures above we can see the species Opuntia ficus-indica, which is particularly appreciated in South America for its fruit the flower is yellow and according to my mother @rvag5 when I was young, in her home state Falcon, she and her brothers were looking for this fruit which is red and according to it the taste is very sweet and in consistency it could be compared with the guava and in the center it contains some small seeds similar to those of the parchita, this fruit has different name tuna, Dato or prickly pear.

• As traits phenotypes we can notice that cactus less evolved or older, have leaves, which evolution is responsible for discarding and turn them into thorns, the most remarkable aspect of the cactus however we can find among the species differences in the thorns, some are large and others small. This also depends on the nutrition of the plant.

• The stem is not more than the body of the plant itself, thickened and strengthened, this is why we can see some cacti that are green and near the root the body of the cactus becomes brown and much harder.

• In most cases we can find that the flowers have a radial symmetry, with numerous petals tightly or slightly overlapping each other depending on the species and one of the most representative aspects of the flowers of the cactus is that they are hermaphrodite ie they are able to reproduce by themselves.
