what started out as a stormy, windy, rainy day cleared up nicely and afforded me the time to explore trails and a park i hadn't been to yet.

as you head away from the city of Campbell River on Hwy 28, you're driving beside the river itself. i saw a bunch of cars parked on the roadside so thought it'd be a good place to start.

the first section was a scenic riverside trail, the Canyon View trail, which winded along the river. eventually, you get to stairs and some real hiking, across a bridge and the Millennium trail begins. this section got the legs burning... up and up and up.

i didn't realize how long the hike was to the falls, and knew i'd be feeling it later, but i just kept on going, and the reward was well worth it. the sun popped out and the falls didn't disappoint.

the view from the suspension bridge was powerful, high above the crashing water and ravine below.

the old growth forest always impresses me. giant trees that climb into forever. a little ways up the trails were the Deer Falls, which had to be seen as well.

then, the inevitable hike all the way back to the car... which gave me a better view of the surge towers.

a great way to spend a few hours in nature, by water, and amongst the ancients of the forest.
