Streets of Milan - Part Four Sforza Castle and Surrounds
The Sforza Castle is a palace, fortress, and monument in Milan, Italy. The original castle was built by Galeazzo Visconti, Lord of Venice, in the 1300s. A century later, the castle was largely destroyed, but later in the 15th Century a new Duke of Milan Francesco Sforza rebuilt the castle.
A moat used to run around the entire fort
An impressive side entrance to the castle square with the drawbridge guides clearly evident either side of the gate
To the right as one enters the main accomodation and galleys were located. The weather was very dull hence the poor quality of the picture
Left hand side and the main entrance under the church tower . This is where we exited the castle and saw the fountain.... but first a food stop, proscuttio and brie bruchetta from a street vendor
Below are images of the Fontana di Piazza Castello
Frozen water in the fountain pays testament to the freezing temperatures at the time
And that I think is enough from Milan ..... next we head off to Como district ...
