Roosevelt Island Lighthouse

On one of my morning walks I decided to go to Roosevelt Island and head to see the lighthouse I had seen looking across at the island on walks in Manhattan

The Lighthouse is called Blackwell Island Lighthouse, also known as Welfare Island Lighthouse and Roosevelt Island Lighthouse, is a stone lighthouse built by New York City in 1872, The lighthouse is approximately 50 feet (15 m) tall

Vertigo Warning - this is another post where people who suffer from vertigo may want to skip as it is looking up shots

The nest shot is fine but the third photo is looking up the Lighthouse.

I mentioned at the start I had seen this lighthouse from manhattan across the East River, here is a shot from that view point.

I did look when I was there and looked online there doesnt seem to be a way to go up the ligthhouse :(

We have built a "corn" here. Showed her once. Here I dream to shoot from there. Both the city and the Gulf of Finland with islands and forts. Everything is at a glance

Being built in stone makes this so impressive, an Octagon shape is appealing, something very different from normal rounded base. Built in a time when stone masonry work was high in demand, demanding good detail the designers name would be in ruin if not giving the best of work at that time.

Nice place to do a photo shoot, enjoyed views you presented, is this a lighthouse allowing you to climb to the top viewing platform?

I fellt the same about this lighthouse it has such a cool style to it, It didn't appear to me that there is any way to climb the platform

Many lighthouses don't allow you up, or you have to book specific times. This one looks so interesting, imagine the view across the stretch of water from up there.

Although on creaking knees, steep climb would most probably need to take a few hours for me, also do not enjoy ascending high places.

Yes thats true I don't think this one allows people to climb it after doing some research online, my knees also struggle sometimes going up and down stairs
