Lake Clifton Stromatolites Mandurah, Perth Australia
The Stromatolites at Lake Clifton are a different type and are actually called Thrombolites and form in a different way. These are found at Yalgorup National Park, Mandurah, Perth Australia. These Microbial communities that photosynthesize, are one of the oldest living life form found on Earth, they date back to about 3.5 billion years.
Thrombolites appeared after the formation of the oceans and their ancestors are responsible for the the first oxygen production that helped form the atmosphere and life as we know it today.

Do they move around or do they stay put...???
@pocketechange
No they look like a rock and move like one too, they are sort of like coral. They are microscopic bacteria that build these mounds as their homes. Cheers
Awesome! Don't think i've seen many of those in South Australia.
Thanks for the comment, I think they are only found in a couple of places in WA. They have found some of the oldest fossils in the world there. Cheers
What are the stones in the algae?
The round lumps are the Thrombolites, they aren't stones they are living creatures sort of like coral. Cheers
