The Monks' Mill - Nahal Zippory 🏞️
This time me and @simba went to Nahal Zippory to see the Carmelite Monks' Mill and to take some photos of the Zippory stream.
The Monks' Mill is located about two kilometers west of the spring of Ein Yafke, and it was built in the Ottoman period.
The name of the mill came from the Carmelite Monks that belonged to them since the middle of the 19th century.
The mill operated until the end of the 1920s and was then abandoned.
The place still belongs to the Catholic Church, which leased it to the Israelis, who renovated the building and opened a guest house.
Next to the mill is a stone bridge with two arches leaning over the stream.
In 2011, the Carmelite Monastery rented the monks' mill to the Kishon River drainage and streams system, which works to rehabilitate the Zippory stream. Kishon River Authority promotes a plan to turn the mill area into the first training center in Israel for the rehabilitation of streams.
Unfortunately in 2014, the mill was mysteriousely torched by unknown persons.
Enjoy!
