PL Fireworks Festival 2017 - Osaka, Japan! [18 Photos]
Summer in Japan means fireworks!
Many cities have huge fireworks festivals during the summer months, concentrated around the end of July and begining of August.
These photos are from the largest local display which happened on August 1st, about 10,000 fireworks shells were used!

Some seemed quite delicate:
While others were heard as thunder from about 2km away.
For most of these pictures I used a 2 to 4 second exposure time. This generates very nice light trails, using a very fast shutter time results in an uninteresting collection of sparks.
Of course a tripod is essential with such long exposures.
One often overlooked piece of gear is a remote shutter release. It can be a wired release, mine is, or IR; they eliminate the vibration caused when pressing the shutter button on the camera. Since these are photos of light sources, any vibration creates very visible wobbles and distortion in the light trails.
The grand finale was too bright for the camera settings I was using, but I did manage to get this burning stellar nebula, as the last few shells detonated in the dense cloud of smoke.

Do u have plan to watch fireworks at Yodogawa river? I think I will participate this festival.
Unfortunately, I can't make it to the Yodogawa fireworks this year (work stuff), but I have been there a few times and it is great! I highly recommend you go if you can!
Friendly advice: buy your drinks and snacks before you get to JUSO or which ever station you are planning to walk from, there are tons of people there and the convenience stores are busy and many things are sold out! There are some night market stalls set up on the park area along the river too, but there's lots of people there too. However, that is also part of the festival experience so I also recommend getting something from those market stalls too!
Wear comfortable shoes! It takes a long time to get home, you'll be standing a lot!

So pretty! Your pictures took me on a journey, felt like I was there watching a show. We used to go every year when I was little to the beach on the 4th of July and watch the yearly show. Thanks for your pictures.
