Yachts parking near the hotel Diplomat in Hollywood, Florida

in #photography5 years ago

Hello Friends,

I often see people giving a tour to a place where they live, and I started to feel uneasy that I didn’t give the place where I live with proper respect. This post is my attempt to correct this shortcoming.

I live in a city of Hollywood, Florida.

One might think that this name is copy-pasted from a more prominent namesake city in California, located in Los Angeles County. The city which name is associated with the World of cinema. Yet I don’t think this is the case.

Hollywood is simply the name of the plant, growing in the outskirts of Los Angeles. Its Latin name is Heteromeles arbutifolia and that’s how it looks like.

In the USA there are quite a number of cities called by the name of fruits and trees. For example, between San Diego and California there is a city of Orange, and to the north of Los Angeles, there is a city by the name of Thousand Oaks. By the way, I was wondering if the name of the Los Angeles inhabitant is an Angeleno, and someone from San Diego – a San Diegan, how one would call an inhabitant of the Thousand Oaks – a thousandoakian? Just a thought.

Anyhow, most likely Hollywood in Florida also was named after these plants. Here is how it looks like taken from a helicopter.

So, I was wondering, what part of Hollywood should I concentrate upon. It has no fancy old fortresses or cathedrals like those that are in Europe. I think because of its hot and humid climate the main real estate development only started here after the commercial production of conditioners. If one should trust Wikipedia, it became available since 1931. The entire oceanfront is occupied by hotels and high rises.

After some consideration, I devoted today’s tour to the hotel Diplomat, built by Donald Trump. (I am not providing his photo since I assume everybody knows how he looks like)

A pleasant fountain in front of this building.

This is the main entrance.

This is temporary parking. The permanent one is on the other side of the street.

One can cross the street using this covered bridge.

Here is how it looks from inside.

This is the look from the top the bridge on both sides of the road.

On the other side of the walkway, there is an elevator, which takes you down to the actual aim of today’s excursion – a little park and a walkway, and the parking for boats in the canal.

Some of them are sailboats.

Some are motor powered yachts.

This is a catamaran.

These are all the expensive boats and the parking here isn’t cheap. And here are some small motor boats.

I am not sure what vessel types these aggregates belong to, but apparently, one can use them for short water tours as well.

This one is a real large tour boat. It takes you along the entire canal stopping in many places.

Now take a look at it in motion.
