Ant Business

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

Ants happen to be one of the most common of insects that we happen to encounter in our daily lives. Although I've never really photographed live ants, it is in my future photographic plans to capture a colony of these six-legged creatures in their natural state whilst they're going about doing their tiny ant business. I found this giant statue of an ant and wondered what would happen if ants did really grew to such a big size - it's a thought provoking yet scary scenario with myriad possibilities. The statue is certainly well made though!

We get to hear so many interesting things about ants, and they've fascinated human beings for many years. The fact that impresses me the most is that ants are capable of lifting an object a whopping 5,000 times their body weight.

Do you know any interesting ant fact?

Thank you for reading!

Ants are extremely interesting. They live in a society which functions like a machine and have strengths that, in human dimension, would be considered superhuman.

Very true - they're supremely unique !

5000 times their body weight? that's huge.
A fact that I have seen since childhood is that they keep team work in whatever they do, You will always find ants helping each other

Yes, one of the best examples of team work :)

And their discipline is to learn out of also, they maintain a good queue when they are on a go

It's easy. If ants grew to the size as in the picture, there are really only four possibilities:

  • they would be direct threat to humans, meaning they would become extinct very quickly
  • they would attack our livestock and crops, meaning they would either become extinct or decimated and driven out of human infested areas into deep woods
  • as hunter-gatherers they would directly compete with humans for wildlife meaning extinction or decimation
  • in a rare possibility that they were somehow useful to humans they could proliferate (although changed); f.e. if they could be controlled in some reliable way they could be used in warfare; if they were collecting or growing something that humans want (like bees producing honey) they would be domesticated or - if domestication was not an option - their nests would be raided for bounty (but like with all useful wildlife sooner or later they would be protected to preserve enough for us to exploit)

In any of the above scenarios their fate would be bleak.

Haha, those are very interesting future possibilities. If they do get so big, pretty sure they won't be around in large numbers. Let's hope for peaceful coexistence :D

Right, I think Ants are the strongest animals in the world, although the size is relatively small a male ant is able to sustain a load weighing fifty times its weight. Can be compared with elephants that are only able to weigh the burden weighing two times the weight of badanya.
Maybe if the ants could grow the size of the statue, they would drink a kapi with us😂

the ants give us a chair on how we should work as a team, they give more importance to the benefit of the community than their own benefit

Es interesante ver el mundo animal. Algo se aprende. Saludos

This place looks as if a dream come genuine region. Especially as it's not acknowledged to vacationers and so few people stay there... it needs to be great. how did you get to listen about it?

Ants always a good example for kids in preparation for the future.

When ants can lift objects weighing 5,000 times their weight, that's where I have to give thumbs to these animals, really they are amazing little animals
