My Day as a Photojournalist - A Country in the Shadow of Corruption
A country that lives at all times haunted by corruption. This is the summary of the current situation here in Brazil. In the newspapers, on television, on news sites and on radio, the news came out on the night of May 17 and continued throughout the night: "In testimony to Judge Sergio Moro, judge of the Car Wash Operation, the largest operation against the corruption in Brazil, big businessmen report payment of bribes to the president of Brazil Michel Temer, in exchange for favoring their companies in public bids. " This news, although not new to the majority of the Brazilian population, fell as a "bomb" in the depressing scenario that Brazil has been going through with a severe economic and political crisis.
I would know that this could result in some protest the next day and I have been preparing my equipment to be able to cover this agenda and to send to the news agencies that I work. I was right and that is exactly what happened. Thousands of people across Brazil's major capitals took to the streets to press for President Michel Temer's resignation in the face of serious allegations of corruption. Social movements linked to leftist political parties here in Recife gathered late in the afternoon of last Friday to show their dissatisfaction and revolt at Derby Square in the central part of the city. Even with all this tragedy we are experiencing here, we still laugh at our own misfortunes.
Perhaps this is one of the main characteristics of the Brazilian people: Although all the economic and political scenarios show a serious phase that we are going through here, even though we are all revolted and discontented with all these regrettable situations, we find a reason to smile and forget all that Which affects us and so we could face our lives, regardless of the nationality we have.
It is hard to fight massive corruption. I hope many good Brazilians will arise to fight this massive corruption :)
