Cherry blossoms and Hiroshima Castle, 🇯🇵
The beautiful city of Hiroshima left an everlasting good impression on us. I don't know when I will be able to come back to Japan, but Hiroshima could certainly be part of the trip again.
While we were there, in April 2016, during the cherry blossom period, we found the city vibrant and very green. Given its tragic history, we never thought it would be such a beautiful city.
If you plan your first trip to Japan, there is a big chance that Kyoto and Tokyo will be part of it. But if you have a few days left before departing, I highly suggest squeezing in a quick tour of Osaka and/or Hiroshima. Different cities, different vibrations, plenty of fun.
We spent a very good time walking around and close to the castle. It was during a break on the island it is located on that I found out most castles in Japan have a nickname. It may be because of their appearance, location, history, or particular events, the reasons vary.
For example, one of my older posts mentioned that the Matsumoto Castle was nicknamed the Crow Castle (烏城 Karasu-jō) due to its black exterior. Well, the Hiroshima Castle has one too: the Carp Castle (鯉城 Rijō)!
It received it from the area were it was built, previously known as Koi-no-ura, the “Carp Sea Shore".
The original castle, built in the 1590s was destroyed by the atomic explosion in 1945, but was rebuilt in 1958 to look exactly like the original. It is now a museum of Hiroshima's history before World War II.
We did not go inside, as we were with our baby boy and these castles are not exactly baby friendly 😅. But the walk was worth it alone. Also, it is a good step before continuing to the Shukkeien Garden not very far from there!
I'm currently writing longer pieces, but again... it is very time consuming. Argh, more time, please!!!

You're right, Hiroshima is a place need to be seen in a Japan trip. It was very different from what I thought before going there, the sensations in this city are incredible.
And when have little time left, a trip at Miyajima island who is close (for the part around Hiroshima of my trip in Japan I slept there) is a different but good place too
You are absolutely right @imtase! Miyajima is a beautiful little island nearby. In fact we slept only one night in Hiroshima and 3 on Miyajima, no regrets at all. In fact I was about to post about the red Torii today, dis you read my mind thrpugh time and space? 😅
Beautiful! That photo is stunning Jala. I would looove to visit Japan for cherry blossom season. In fact, Spring for the blossoms and Winter for the snowboarding. Must.start.saving!

Been there twice, and counting months until next time! But, unfortunately for us living in Canada, this is alot of money just to grab flight tickets... Maybe by next year, steem will be at Bitcoin levels, and we'll be all billionaires ;-)
