The circle had a diameter of 0.000143 millimeters. In this circle an electron can be enclosed, like a sheep behind a fence (the scientists themselves call this quantum corral).
A scanning tunneling microscope represents this as a wave pattern, as the frozen image of the ripples that arise when you throw a stone into the water.
It is a unique image that stimulates the imagination - a glimpse of the hot interior of matter, beyond the tangible sense world.
There too, man can draw boundaries, build walls, embed and shut out, write in the inner structure of things as if it were sand.”
