This IS NOT A Stone (#51)
Stones have always appealed strongly to the imagination of every human being. Who does not remember himself with a bag full of stones, or with a construction of found pebbles?
More than ever contemporary sculptors use stone as material.
As a sustainable, beautiful, pleasant matter stone holds all time, brings the contemporary man back to the dolmens and to the Stone Age, teaches us the meaning of fossilization and concretion, and plays a certain role in many death ritual and in animistic cultures.
Without completely understanding the testimony, we are taken by the mysterious power of dolmens, stones, pyramids, the huge structures of the Aztecs, the massifs of Zimbabwe, the images of the Incas and even the power of present-day stone-constructions.
A tiny pebble given to us by a loved one becomes a talisman, and celebrities like Jung regard pebbles as homes of souls of dead people.
In short, stones tell a history and have a background just like human beings.
