Digital Photography made full frame lenses a luxury item.

Ya know, the thing that still drives me nuts about the rise of digital photography is what it's done to the market regarding lenses.

Before the rise of digital, kit lenses were full frame. My first somewhat professional film camera was a Nikon N80 -- I got the camera and two lenses for $600, and there was no discussion about the lenses covering full frame.

Lens technology actually doesn't move that fast. The only reason that I can see regarding why a full frame lens went from a couple hundred dollars twenty years ago, to a luxury item, is that digital photography made full frame a luxury item.

What's more, my mind has been blown in regard to how cheap large format lenses can be had. Schneider and Rodenstock lenses for large format can be had for less than $300. These are lenses that cover a much larger surface area than "full frame." A prime lens that is considered to be "cheap" in digital photography, that can cover full frame, would be more expensive.

Yeah, if you shoot digital, you can shoot as much as you want, and you don't have to worry about the money as much as I do; but, you're getting fucked hard in regard to lenses. I can -- and will -- buy four or five large format lenses for the price of one full frame zoom lens.
